Mosaic Homeschool Co-op: Creating a More Just Cooperative Learning Experience
What Differentiates Mosaic?
Mosaic offers flexible, high-impact elective and enrichment courses that seamlessly supplement your homeschool curriculum. We are a movement dedicated to the intentional co-creation of an equitable community. Our core mission is to empower every Black, Brown, and underserved child to thrive in an environment where their full personhood is celebrated. We go beyond traditional co-op models to support the entire family, offering resources that foster both academic rigor and parental economic well-being. Collaboration is the key to our success, centering justice, academic excellence, and freedom. Look below to understand the specific, actionable ways Mosaic fundamentally differentiates itself from traditional co-ops:
-
We recognize that "otherness" is a barrier to learning and a tool of systemic inequity. We actively dismantle this with intention and compassion - making it normal for students to learn from, respect, and connect with peers from all racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. This hands-on, authentic experience is how we cultivate true empathy and community.
-
Instead of rules being imposed solely by the parents, our students are empowered to participate in creating the co-op's code of conduct. Discussing questions like "How do we treat a classmate who is struggling?" or "What does a good co-op meeting look like?" or “What is a reasonable dress code for both girls and guys.” embeds social justice principles (respect, empathy) directly into the group's culture.
-
We teach with intentional flexibility. From sensory toys/tools to a quiet room for children with sensory sensitivities, movement breaks for active learners, or small group breakouts for different academic paces. We collectively addresses a diversity of needs to help all of our students feel welcome.
-
Your enrollment does NOT obligate you to teach or hold weekly administrative service roles! Unlike most traditional co-ops that require several hours of mandatory weekly service (teaching, cleaning, administrative duties) from every enrolled parent, Mosaic is structured to prioritize the parent's time. This acknowledges that a parent's time is precious and that many are using the co-op structure to manage a demanding work/life balance. We encourage our parents to utilize our co working space to further
-
Home education often requires a parent to reduce or stop working. By offering training (tech skills, administrative certifications, allied health training, real estate, and more) on-site during co-op hours, the co-op helps parents gain skills, increasing their long-term earning potential without sacrificing their commitment to homeschooling.
-
Our courses—especially high school electives—are meticulously vetted to align with Texas TEKS standards. This rigor allows parents to confidently include these courses on their child's official homeschool transcripts. Students receive official certificates of completion for their Mosaic coursework. These documents detail the subject content, learning objectives, and hours, providing concrete, verifiable evidence of academic work.
"We are not a movement of new ideas. Rather, women called to reinvent and reinforce the sacred tradition of education our children when a system fails to do so…"
